4 Big Expenses You Can Cut To Save For Travel

October 14, 2020 by oceanvibration 4 Comments

Finding the money to travel is tough and most people don’t get to go away as often as they would like to. But if you are serious about traveling more often as I do, there are ways that you can find the money. If you can cut back on some of your biggest expenses, all of that extra money can be put towards your next trip. These are some of the biggest expenses that you can cut to save money for travel.

Health Costs

Looking after your health is important, but it can be expensive. If you wear glasses, for example, you probably spend a lot of money on a new pair whenever you need one. But the thing is, you’re probably spending too much if you go to a high street optician instead of heading online. There are some great guides that help you to find cheap glasses (follow the link to read it) so you can put all of that extra money into your travel fund. If you take medication on a regular basis, you should shop around for that online as well because you can usually find better deals. It’s also worth taking a look at your health insurance plan as well to see if you can save money there as well.

Subscriptions

So many companies use subscription models these days and most of us have at least one TV subscription and you might have a gym subscription or a monthly food box subscription as well. The problem is, people start these subscriptions and then forget they even have them, so they’re paying for things that they never use. It’s worth checking what subscriptions you have and cancelling the ones that you don’t use very often.

Car Costs

Owning and running a car is incredibly expensive when you add up the insurance and fuel costs, so why not try using it less often? Most places have good public transport links that you can use instead or you could even try walking or cycling instead of driving. It’s a lot better for your health and the planet and all of the money that you save can go straight into your travel fund.

Phone Costs

You can’t really do without a mobile phone these days, but are you spending more than you need to? If you pay for the latest phone, the monthly contract can be very expensive. The thing is, a phone that is a year or two old will do pretty much the exact same thing that a brand new model does and it’ll cost a fraction of the price. You don’t need to upgrade to a brand new phone every time your contract runs out either.

A lot of people are also paying for a landline phone that they never use, so that’s money down the drain every month. If you get rid of your landline and switch to a cheaper mobile contract, you can save plenty of money.

Cutting back on these big monthly expenses is a lot easier than you think and you will find it a lot easier to save for your next trip. If you want to travel long term, you should also look at different ways to earn while you travel.

How to Earn Money While Traveling

October 3, 2020 by oceanvibration 1 Comment

Having a severe case of wanderlust, I am always planning your next trip abroad. However, it can be tough to find a way to balance your responsibilities and traveling as much as you would like. If you love to experience different cultures and love to explore new places, then being stuck in one place can leave you feeling restless and longing for your next adventure. Needing to save the money for your travels can take a long time, but it is possible to fulfill your travel dreams without needing to spend years saving your money to make it a reality. Instead, why not try it my way and ‘work’ as you travel?

Working while you travel no longer means spending hours in the scorching sunlight picking grapes, or needing to take a job teaching English as a foreign language. Nowadays, the power of the internet and social media means that there are many ways to earn money while you are traveling. Here are some of the ways that you can make some extra cash while you see the world!

Blogging

If you have a passion for travel, why not share your enthusiasm with the world by setting up a travel blog? While blogging may not earn you big money at the start, if you persevere, you should be able to enjoy some income from it if it attracts a reasonable number of followers.

Travel is something that many people want to do more, so travel blogs often have an aspirational quality to them. As a frequent traveler, you will be able to provide plenty of jet-setting inspo for your followers, along with many useful travel tips. Charting your journey in a travel blog is not only a good idea to help you make some more money to fund your travels, but it is also an excellent way to document your adventures.

Photography also plays a vital role in travel blogs. Capturing stunning images of your travels will not only add visual impact to your blog, but you may also be able to sell your pictures to generate an extra income stream.

Trading

If you want to minimize the amount of time that you spend working while still trying to earn money, then you may want to give trading a try. Before you get started, it is wise to do your research, especially if you are new to trading as this will enable you to gain an idea of how it works and which investments would be best for you. There are many different ways to trade, such as CFD Trading of swaps, options, and futures, so it helps to familiarize yourself with your choices.

The great thing about trading is that you can do it from anywhere so long as you can connect to the internet.

If you want to fulfill your travel dreams while making money at the same time, all you need is a reliable internet connection, and your phone or computer to earn while you explore the world.

Taking Care of Yourself While Travelling

October 1, 2020 by oceanvibration 6 Comments
travel safe

As the borders are reopening such as for us in Mauritius, your mind is probably full to the brim with excitement, ideas and plans. This is great! But every so often, you do need to pull things back down to Earth and start to think about some of the more serious or dull matters at hand. Travel safety tends to be one of these topics. At the end of the day, you really do need to do your utmost to ensure your own safety throughout your trip. Sure, others might keep an eye on you. But at the end of the day, your own safety and wellbeing are your own responsibility and you really need to prioritise both of these factors from the start of your trip to the end. When you travel, you are likely to find yourself in all sorts of unfamiliar situations, so it’s good to plan before you head away. Here are a few areas of focus that should help you!

Avoid Hitchhikers and Hitchhiking

If you find yourself on the road while travelling, it’s important that you avoid hitchhikers. Sure, it can be tempting to help someone out who seems in need. But you really shouldn’t compromise your own safety in this way. When you are in a car with someone, you put yourself in a very vulnerable position – they could act in a whole host of ways that could be detrimental to your health, your wellbeing or even your life. In a similar vein, you shouldn’t hitchhike if you find yourself in a difficult situation. If you don’t have the money for transport or your transport fails or cancels, do not hitchhike. You don’t know whose car you are getting into and you are completely at their will as soon as you do get in. As a rule of thumb, cut out hitchhiking as an option in general.

Carry a First Aid Kit

Sure, we want to travel as lightly as possible when we’re travelling. But consider a first aid kit an essential. Having a first aid kit at hand will help you to deal with any situations you might face and will make you more comfortable in difficult situations. A good first aid kit should include plasters in a variety of shapes and sizes, different size gauze dressings, microporous tape, at least two sterile eye dressings, an eye rinse kit, triangular bandages, safety pins, tweezers, and sterile disposable gloves. You should also include basic medicine, such as paracetamol, ibuprofen, heartburn relief, rehydration powders and more.

Carry Spares

If there’s anything you couldn’t get by without comfortably on your trip, make sure to take a spare. This could be a spare phone charger. It could be a spare pair of glasses from this website or spare contact lenses. It could be a spare map or a spare copy of your itinerary. Make sure to always have an extra of anything you really need – just in case.

Research Areas You’re Visiting

Chances are you’re not going to be all too familiar with many of the places you visit on your travels. After all, most people travel to see and experience places they’ve never been to before. But this puts you in a pretty vulnerable situation. It’s a good idea to make sure you thoroughly research any areas you’re considering visiting when you travel. This will give you an idea of what the area is like, which areas are fine and which areas you might want to avoid. Other travellers’ and locals’ tips and advice can make all the difference, preventing you from straying into areas where you might come to harm.

Avoid Travelling Alone

Sure, individual and solo travel can be a great experience. But generally speaking, it’s best to avoid travelling completely alone. Why? Well, if you come to harm when you’re alone, you might be stuck for a while. If you come to harm while you’re with someone else, they can look after you and seek help.

Don’t Risk Anything for a Picture

Nowadays, increasing numbers of people are losing their lives in attempts to capture photographs for their social media feeds. Avoid this. Never put yourself in a precarious or potentially dangerous situation purely for the sake of a picture. Avoid cliff edges. Avoid train tracks. Avoid expanses of water that don’t have lifeguards or depth markers. A picture simply isn’t worth your life!

These are just a few tips and tricks that can help you to look after yourself as best possible when you’re travelling. Keep them in mind at all times!

-
How has it started for you?
-
It hasn't started yet on my side and it seems that the on going year 2020 is just getting worse.
-
A bad start of the year did stall me and my motivation, but it is mainly because of such great expactions for the new year.
-
By taking a step back, I have realised that despite how the global situation may be, I am more than lucky to be in Mauritius.
-
Here we can go out, swim, surf, dive or do whatever rocks our boat. So in the end it is a greater year already than for most.
-
So I am jumping in; heads first!

Luckily, we are blessed in Mauritius with very accessible fun and mind-blowing activities that are pretty much free. Just going out to the beach for a swim or kayaking on a quiet do bring back things in perspective.

We do lose sight of the important things in life specially with social media injecting fear straight in your bone marrow!

It's been so hectic recently and it seemed that I didn't get time to do much.

Today while shooting and stopping for a nice stand up paddle session I finally realised that I don't have time because I am doing all the things that I love.

I'd like to take the time to thank you all for your continuous support and allowing me to live the dream.

Living in the moment - With the recent oil spill d Living in the moment
-
With the recent oil spill disaster that happened on the east coast of Mauritius, I had a lot to reflect on.
-
Is it worth spending precious time sharing my passion for the ocean? Does it actually make a difference when such natural disaster strikes us?
-
Isn't it better to live in the moment? Well, what does it mean?
-
Turns out that, for me at least, living in the moment is all about doing all those little things like sharing my thoughts and passion for the ocean.
-
Whatever happens in the world, I will strive to rain the same, far away from anger and helplessness. Living in the moment is about giving and sharing. Just like the joy a looking after a plant; you can only give.

I have been really excited to get back in the water snorkeling.

With 3 months of total confinement in Mauritius I was well assured of finding my beautiful ocean at its prime with tones of fish around and beautiful coral reefs.
-
Sadly it didn't take long for me to realize that I was far from being realistic.
-
No fish, grey and bleached out corals, were my landscape for an hour underwater.
-
The most colorful thing I found at the bottom was a can of local Phoenix beer.
-
It took millions and millions of years for the oceans to build such an incredible ecosystem; and less than 100 years for humans to bring it to its knees.

3 months is obviously not enough. The ocean needs you to change.

You never get bored of surfing. You are never a 'good' surfer. You can always surf bigger waves, more hollow, or deeper.

Truth is that real ocean saving starts within, with every decesion that we make daily. Many of us who can't access the ocean can still have a huge impact on its health.
